What is the Kingdom of God?
What do you know about the Kingdom of God? Is it in your heart? Up in Heaven or here on earth? Does it already exist or is it to come sometime in the future? The best place to find the answer is in your bible. It was always God’s intention to set up His earthly Kingdom. It was for this reason that he created earth and humanity. After God created the heavens and earth everything was good. He then created man in his image to dominate and take care of the earth. “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in Our image, according to our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26However because of man’s disobedience the Kingdom God had intended could not happen at that time. Adam and Eve became separated from God because of the choice they made – to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil - which God told them not to do. God had to banish them from the Garden and protect the tree of life. Since then we have become separated from God and the earth has become corrupted because of sin.
“After banishing them from the garden, the Lord God stationed mighty angelic beings to the east of Eden. And a flaming sword flashed back and forth, guarding the way to the tree of life.” Genesis 3:24

“Now the earth had become corrupt in God’s sight, and it was filled with violence. God observed all this corruption in the world, and he saw violence and depravity everywhere.” Genesis 6:11-12God then destroyed the civilization that existed then via great flood, except for Noah and his family. This did not change much though. Man still insisted in living his life apart from God. The only way man could be reconciled to God was through his son Jesus Christ.
“All this newness of life is from God, who brought us back to himself through what Christ did. And God has given us the task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them.” 2 Corinthians 5:18-19
All the Prophets of the Old Testament preached about this Kingdom.
Daniel interpreted a dream from King Nebuchadnezzar where the Kingdom of God will shatter all other kingdoms and stand forever. Daniel 2:44
Micah prophesied that there will be no more wars and military training. All weapons will be turned into tools for farming. Micah 4:3-4
Wild animals will be tamed and children can have them as pets according to Isaiah. Isaiah 11:6-9
A Literal Kingdom
The Kingdom of God is a literal Kingdom that will be set up on earth at the return of Jesus Christ. It is still to be established, and it is for this reason that Jesus Christ was born, to rule in this future Kingdom.“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. And the government will rest on his shoulders. These will be his royal titles: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His ever expanding peaceful government will never end. He will rule forever with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the Lord Almighty will guarantee this!” Isaiah 9:6-7
“Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices shouting in heaven: “The whole world has now become the Kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign forever and ever.” Revelation 11:15.Jesus Christ’s first coming was to preach about the Good News of the coming Kingdom.
“After John was arrested by Herod Antipas, Jesus went to Galilee to preach God’s good news. ‘At last the time has come!’ He announced. ‘The Kingdom of God is near! Turn from your sin and believe this Good News!” Mark 1:14-15Jesus used a lot of parables to describe the Kingdom of God. He did this so only his Apostles could understand the secrets of the Kingdom.

“His disciples came and asked Him, ‘Why do you always tell stories when you talk to the people?’ Then he explained to them, ‘You have been permitted to understand the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven, but others have not.” Matthew 13:11Jesus then went on to give different parables describing the Kingdom of Heaven. You will find some of these in Matthew chapter 13.
