Bearing Fruit - Joy
Joy is listed as second in bearing spiritual fruit. – Galatians 5:22-23God wants us to be filled with joy and one way to experience this joy is by giving and showing love. The love that comes from Jesus Christ. “I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey me, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father and remain in his love. I have told you this so that you will be filled with my joy. Yes, your joy will overflow.” John 15:11Most people expect to receive happiness and contentment from money and obtaining material things. In other words by ‘getting’. But true happiness and joy can only come when you give of yourself and to others.
“…It is more blessed to give than to receive”. Acts 20:35Another way to experience joy is to be thankful for all that you have. If you are not appreciative of what you already have, then you will continually be searching for something to make you happy, but will never find it. You can only be happy and joyful by enjoying what you already possess.
“Always be joyful. Keep on praying. No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus”. I Thessalonians 5:16-18Even when we face trials and challenges we must remain joyful. Trials are not meant to bring us down, but to lift us up. To help us build character and be strong individuals.
“Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.” James 1:2-4To experience this joy we must have the Holy Spirit in us as this is something we cannot achieve on our own.
“But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control…” Galatians 5:22-23.To receive the Holy Spirit we must repent and be baptized.
“Each of you must turn from your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. “Acts 2:38.Joy is something God wants us to have. The bible is filled with scripture of rejoicing and praising – all part of being joyful. So be joyful and build a relationship with Jesus Christ whose joy will always fill your heart.
“I have told them many things while I was with them so they would be filled with my joy.” John 17:13
