The Theory of Evolution and Apologetics

When the Roman Catholic Church started to rule the Christian world, Christian Apologetics became dormant for quite sometime. This was because the Catholic Church persecuted those who were opposed to them. People were afraid to express their feelings.
Then with the advent of the Reformation, Christianity in all its forms, even the gospel, was rejected by most. This also gave rise to numerous Christian movements. What kept them from rejecting the bible totally was the creation. Creation was accepted by most people, even the educated ones. The thinking at the time was the only way to get rid of the Christians was to find a way to destroy the credibility of the bible, but they had no idea how to do this.
Then came Charles Darwin and his Theory of Evolution. Darwin was able to form his theory from a scientific point of view. Keep in mind that many people started to believe that science had the answer to everything. If science could not prove it, then it can’t be true. This is why Darwin’s theory became so popular.
Evolutionists then started to convince theologians that evolution was indeed fact and that they must in turn convince Christians also. As far as they were concerned the creation teachings of the bible must be abandoned. This was how they intended to destroy belief in the bible. There were even those who wanted to mix the two together, both evolution and creation but this only resulted in discrediting the bible and Christianity even more. It took a small group of believers who took the time to write books defending creation and this has helped to keep the biblical creation account alive.
Today there are quite a few organizations that devote their time to defending the historical and scientific reliability of the bible. This is where modern Apologetics and Creationism gained its importance.
The Work of Modern Apologetics
In the early twentieth century, the use of evolutionism and rationalism created skepticism in the minds of the average Christian and some could not find the courage to defend the bible and their faith. With modern apologetics, evangelical Christians became rather vocal and aggressive and their influence has encouraged believers to start defending their faith. As such there are lots of literature and other resources dedicated to defending the bible.
The work of the critics and rationalists of the early 19th and 20th centuries has left a bad taste in the mouth for most of Christianity today. But with the work of Christian Apologetics, the truth is now once again being exposed.
